In an effort to communicate more effectively with Ticktockers, to gain valuable insights from our younger members, and to provide them a voice in NCL matters, NCL, Inc. formed a Ticktocker Advisory Council. Candidates from across the nation applied and were selected following an interview process. The 2009-2010 Ticktocker Advisory Council consists of:
Alexis Budzyn, Glendale Chapter, is currently a senior at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy located in La Canada, California. She recently turned 17 and enjoys playing volleyball on both school and club teams. She is a "math nerd" who hopes to major in mathematics when she goes to college (somewhere on the East coast). Of her NCL Experience, Alexis says, "I love being able to spend time with my younger sister and my mom while serving others in the surrounding communities. My favorite NCL experience, up to this point, would be the summer barbeques at the retirement home our chapter runs, as I can interact with the senior citizens; I have heard many great stories while talking to them. I am very excited to be a part of the Ticktocker Advisory Committee and hope I can make some positive change."
Kathleen Crone, Dogwood Chapter, is a senior at NCSU in Raleigh, North Carolina studying Communications, specifically Media, as well as Political Science. This past summer, she interned in the Marketing Department at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, an experience that allowed her to learn a lot about an organization that both supports and benefits from its local community. Her current goal is to attend graduate school next year. She was a member and Ticktocker officer of NCL for six years in the Raleigh, NC Dogwood Chapter. "My favorite NCL memory, by far, was working with the children at Loaves and Fishes. Watching those children grow and adapt over seven years, as I myself did, was truly a meaningful experience."
Addie Dorsey, Capistrano Coast Chapter, lives in the Southern California community of Dana Point, and says that she truly appreciates where she lives, as she can enjoy the beach with her family and while walking her dog, Riley! She is a senior in high school and the eldest of four sisters, two of which are currently Ticktockers. Her youngest sister, Emma (a sixth grader), is excited for her turn to join NCL. During the summer, her favorite season, Addie loves playing soccer and hanging out with her friends. She plays competitively for West Coast Soccer Club and for her high school soccer team. This summer has been a little busier than others, as she was not only preparing for the SAT, but also visiting colleges and attending soccer tournaments. "I hope to attend UCLA and major in either Business or Biology. However, whatever I ultimately decide, I know I want to enjoy life and give back to my community."
Katherine Suzuki, Crystal Springs Chapter, is from Hillsborough in Northern California and is currently in her senior year of high school at Sacred Heart Preparatory. She says that, right now, her life seems to be consumed by the daunting task of completing college applications, finishing homework for the rigorous Senior year coursework, and managing the school yearbook as Editor-in-Chief. "I am extremely excited to have this opportunity to participate in NCL at the national level because I love what NCL stands for: leadership, philanthropy, and mother-daughter bonding. I have thoroughly enjoyed my years with the Crystal Springs Chapter. I have great memories of philanthropies with which my mom, sister, and I have worked and have been gratified by the impact we have, as a philanthropic organization, in our local community."
Kate Sylvia, San Francisco Chapter, recently graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Science and Business. There she participated in Student as well as Dorm Government, Varsity Rowing, and the Read to a Child Program. She was also a task leader for the Center for Social Concerns and a Eucharistic Minister. For the next year she will be conducting Neonatal Research before pursuing her medical degree. Kate's favorite NCL experience was the time spent with her mother at Halleck Creek, a therapeutic riding program for children as well as adults with muscular deficient diseases. She currently lives in Tiburon, California.
